I am "That" Kind of Mom

| On
Friday, July 26, 2013
*Unfortunately this weekend I while using blogger on my phone I accidentally hit submit and it erased all current versions of this post. This is what I remember...*

I am a new kind of mom. I've only been a mom for four month. I certainly do not have everything figured out but I'm learning and loving the process!

So what kind of mom am I? Well I am the kind of mom that stays home, breastfeeds, wears her baby, cloth diapers and will be making baby food (2 more months until he can have solids!). I am the kind of mom that researches everything baby before I purchase it. I am the kind of mom that checks to see if my son is breathing and stares at the monitor during "me" time. I am the kind of mom that changes clothes at the first sight of spit up (I do lots of laundry). I am the kind of mom that sends 5 pictures a day to my husband of our son (he loves it!). And while we are on the subject of pictures I probably take like 20 a day and some videos too. I am the kind of mom that makes sacrifices for the better of my child and doesn't hesitate. The house is not always perfect, dinner might not always be done but baby boy, mommy and daddy are happy :)

So there you have it, I am "that" kind of mom. I look up to my mom in so many ways but, I'm me. Over time I will for sure have it all together but in the meantime I'm enjoying learning how to get there. I listen to suggestions from others but ultimately I do what I feel is right and also what works for us!

If I Could Be Anything In the World...

| On
Monday, July 22, 2013
Today I'm linking up with Becky for 52 Weeks of Blogging With a Purpose. If I could be anything in the me thinking this week. The possibilities are endless of what I could be or could have been. After some daydreaming I knew exactly what that would be...ME!

I truly love the life that I have and am very thankful for the people I share it with. I have an amazing husband, no seriously he truly is amazing. We have an adorable baby boy who has taken over our world and we love it.

Are there dream jobs that I had growing up? Sure I wanted to be a pediatrician for a while. After finding out how long I would be in school and my queasy stomach for blood I moved on. Then after graduating from college I was set to be a elementary school teacher. I was taking the summer off and going to start the credential program in the fall but you see I didn't end up doing either of those things.
Honestly neither of those jobs would make me as happy as I am with with my new full time job being a mom. So if I could be anything in the world I would be a mom of two children, maybe three. That is definately my new dream :)

Sunday Social

| On
Sunday, July 21, 2013

It's been a while since I've participated in Sunday Social. This week is all about TV!

1. What was your favorite TV show as a kid? Full House hands down! I cried when it went off the air.

2. What is your current favorite TV show? So You Think You Can Dance, Tia & Tamera and The Big Bang Theory

3. What reality site would you NEVER do? I don't think I would do any reality show to be honest...unless HGTV is filming :)

4. Which reality site would you LOVE to do? I watch a lot of HGTV I would love the Property Brothers to redesign my room and bathroom.

5. What TV personality/character do you feel is most like you? Well I can't think of any one person. Like anyone! I'm having mommy brain this weekend! I can relate to tv personality Tamera Mowry-Housley being that we both just recent had babies.

6. Which TV character would you like to date? Hmm I don't know, none of them are as amazing as my husband.

MOMent 5- Is He Breathing?

| On
Monday, July 15, 2013
I had my son at 1:46 AM and by the time we were settled in the mom and baby unit it was close to 3 my husband was so tired we had been awake for 23 hours. I insisted he sleep and he was out in like 2 seconds. Me on the other hand, I was exhausted from labor and so sleepy but I couldn't sleep. I would close my eyes for a few minutes then turn to see if my new baby was breathing. I did this until 7 the next morning when the nurse came in to check our vitals.     The. The next night I did the same thing all night long...I didn't actually sleep until we got home from the hospital I took a loooong nap while my husband stayed with our son.

I cannot tell you how many times I have checked to see if he is breathing. Sometimes he is so peaceful when he sleeps, he doesn't move for what seems like forever. I have gone in a put my hand on his chest, finger near his nose and one of the dumbest ideas was to pick up his limp arm that dropped on the mattress and woke him up. Clearly he was breathing!

The we bought a video monitor and I would stare at the screen to watch for highs chest to move up and down so I knew he was breathing. We spent far too much time looking at the monitor in the beginning! Oh heck who am I kidding I still stare at the tiny little screen randomly!! Lately, as in the past 48 hours or so, I have been relying on my maternal instincts to reassure myself he is ok and still breathing and not to run into the room he is sleeping in and accidentally wake him.

Can you relate? When did you stop checking to see if your child was breathing? Do you ever stop checking?

If I Were to Win the Lottery....

| On
Sunday, July 14, 2013
If I were to win the lottery I would be one happy girl. I mean who wouldn't want to win a bunch of money??? Funny thing is before I saw this topic in Becky's 52 Weeks of Blogging with a Purpose, my husband and I talked about what we would do if we won the lottery. I wouldn't let the money get to my head, my husband is a saver so we would definately save a lot of the money, create college funds for our kids, share with our family so that they are set for the rest of their lives and tithe off of it first and foremost.

We have to have a little bit of fun, so to narrow it down to 5 things I would buy/spend the money on:

1. I would pay off my house and rent it out. I love my house but I would love a little more space. So that means buying another house, and I want it custom built.

2. SUV! We have had to borrow a friends truck or ask our parents to go with us when we need to pick up something large. Having a SUV of our own would be awesome and the one I want is a Toyota Highlander.

3. Go on a lavish vacation with all our family flying first class. We went to Europe last summer and sat in the first coach aisle. Big mistake, loved the leg room but seeing those amazing chair/bed that first class passengers sat in was a tease.

4. Closet makeover!! I would toss a bunch of stuff and just start and all. I would so buy the outfit combos I have pinned!

5. Start a Montessori school. It is my dream to run a school, once I'm having kids.

MOMent 4- The Post Partum Horror

| On
Sunday, July 07, 2013

Now I'm not taking about post partum depression I'm taking about those days that follow giving birth. I knew that things would be rough (aporopriate word for the occasion) after having a baby but after extensive research I thought I was prepared...
WRONG! Those were some painfully unpretty days, who am I kidding first few weeks. Is birth painful? Yes Do you really forget the pain? Yes

So I'm writing this from a much happier place. I strutted the I just has a baby walk for the first week proudly. It's almost like waddling but imagine yourself minus the realy big belly, pretending to walk with a cain. As per doctors orders my activity was kept to a minimum for the first couple days but it wasn't like I was wanting to get up and return to life as normal because normal was now foreign to me. I took for granted standing and all the muscles you use to stand, and sitting wowza that was a very slow process. Laughing was followed by tears so I tried not a laugh, which was really hard because my husband is hilarious.

I will spare the gory details, there are some awesome blogs that describe the experience pretty well. I don't need to relive it through words! Now I can offer some advice. Take the medicine the doctors prescribe, take the extras from the hospital they will give it to you, if a sitz bath is offered take it, stock up on pads going to the store is an adventure with your new baby, take it easy the more you the more pain you well be in. Most of all when help is offered take it!

My Biggest Weakness

| On
Sunday, July 07, 2013
This weeks topic in  Becky's 52 Weeks of Blogging with a Purpose is weakness. Now who wants to admit that they have any flaws? Let alone tell everyone about their biggest weakness! I got to thinking about this one a lot and while I have many weaknesses my biggest one would be always saying yes. I have a big heart and am always willing to help. This often leads to me saying yes to doing a lot of things. I have a real hard time saying no. Many times I put my husband and my roles in the house second to doing things for other people. Putting my husband second to other people is not ok with me. Call me old fashion but I actually enjoy doing things at home and my husband works long hours and doesn't always have the luxury to take a lunch break let alone a break. So I make every attempt to have dinner made and finish up my things for the day so we can relax together. Granted things come up but there was a time when I was always busy doing stuff for other people and then I realized what I was doing.

I am learning now more than ever that there is nothing wrong with saying no. It doesn't make me a mean person or even mean that I am not willing to help. I have to take into consideration what is on my plate and see if I can add more. In the first 2 months of having my son I said no a lot. No to going out, no to attending events, no to the offer to babysit. I wanted the three of us to bond for one, and I didn't feel the need to attend every single event with my newborn baby. I wasn't ready! Im sure it annoyed someone but I finally realized that I can't live to please other people.

I am slowly embracing the simple word "no" and honestly my life is less stressful because of it!

So what's your biggest weakness?? Link up!

MOMent 3- Sleep Part 1

| On
Monday, July 01, 2013

Let me just start this off by saying that sleep is definitely a privilege not a right for parents especially new ones! This girl loves sleep!! I used to be a mess if I was awaken suddenly and pretty grouchy. It was no secret to my husband prior to getting married so we wondered how I would once we had kids. So pregnancy or at least mine sort of prepared me for waking up. I woke up so often to go to the bathroom it was not even funny.

We walked around like zombies for the first few days weeks! I'm not even really sure how we were able to function as responsible parents but we did :) There is truly no rhyme or reason as to when a newborn wakes up. It is as random as can be. Oh but they are so snuggly and warm and just curl up so sweetly into your arms that you melt and forget you were tired for like 2 maybe 5 seconds tops and then a fat yawn starts up. But for real your lack of sleep in no joke and to make matters worse you hear some parents saying my baby slept through the night at 2 weeks you think yeah right and wonder what happened to you. Anyone else have that parent say this to you?
